The new online magazine "Die Ostschweiz" is launched

On Thursday, Die Ostschweiz appeared for the first time, a new free magazine that will be published mainly online. It is to be financed by advertising.

The first issue includes a report on the zero-star hotel of artists Frank and Patrik Riklin, which could be an alternative for tourism in Toggenburg.

Also published was an interview with the former editor-in-chief of the Upper Lake News Bruno Hug, who was released after a first-instance ruling on KESB reporting by Gratisanzeiger.

Printed editions planned

There are various columns, among others by Giuseppe Gracia, author and media representative of the diocese of Chur, or the St. Gallen SVP National Councilor Roland Rino Büchel.

A lengthy video conversation was conducted with Maurus Candrian. Candrian recently lost his job in the Thurgau building department because of massive criticism of Israel in online forums.

It also deals with sports, features various guest authors and offers a weather forecast, presented in front of the camera of Jörg Kachelmann. The "first online weekly newspaper in Switzerland" is not in the service of daily news, writes co-editor-in-chief Stefan Millius in the editorial. It's not about publishing sudden events as quickly as possible, he says. "We prefer to question them. And thus escape the dictates of speed." A new issue of the magazine will be published every Friday. Eastern Switzerland will also be printed from time to time, according to the first newsletter. (SDA)
