Chinese wants to buy Yahoo

Just three weeks after Yahoo CEO Carol Bartz was fired, Chinese internet entrepreneur Jack Ma has expressed interest in the U.S. company. According to sources, Yahoo founder Jerry Yang said just a few weeks ago that the company was not for sale.

Nevertheless, analysts believe it is likely that Yahoo will ultimately be the target of a takeover. He is very interested in Yahoo, they say. The founder of Chinese online retailer Alibaba said this on Friday at an event at Stanford University in California, according to SDA.

Yahoo has a stake of around 40 percent in Alibaba. Bartz had rejected Ma's offer to buy back these shares. Yahoo shares rose by five percent in after-hours trading on Friday.

Alibaba is probably one of the very few companies that Yahoo understands well, Ma continued, according to SDA. The relationship dates back to 2005, but has recently become increasingly strained.
