Change of Editor-in-Chief at La Liberté
After nearly eleven years, Louis Ruffieux is stepping down as editor-in-chief of the Fribourg daily newspaper La Liberté. He will hand over his position in August to his former deputy, Serge Gumy.
Ruffieux himself asked to be relieved of his duties, as the company St-Paul Imprimeries and La Liberté Médias jointly announced on Tuesday. He said he wanted to spend more time writing. The journalist, now 60, was in the editorial cadre of the daily newspaper for a total of 18 years: seven years as deputy editor-in-chief, eleven years as editor-in-chief. Ruffieux had managed to increase the circulation of his newspaper between 2004 and 2015. This was "an exception in the Swiss press landscape," the publishers praised his work. He will remain with the newspaper as editor.

The 45-year-old Serge Gumy will succeed Ruffieux'. After receiving his journalistic training at La Liberté, Gumy moved to RTS radio in western Switzerland between 2001 and 2007, then to 24 Heures and the Tribune de Genève for three years. In 2010, he returned to La Liberté, where he rose to deputy editor-in-chief in 2012. (SDA)
