Catherine Ann Berger becomes Director of Swiss Films

The Swiss Films Foundation Board has appointed Catherine Ann Berger as director of Swiss Films. She currently holds various positions in the film industry.

Catherine Ann Berger will take over from Micha Zhivov on May 1, 2013. According to a press release issued by Swiss Films on Tuesday, 38 applications were received for the position of Director of Swiss Films. Following a multi-stage selection process, the Board of Trustees chose Catherine Ann Berger.

Catherine Ann Berger currently works as an editor in the area of co-productions and Pacte de l'audiovisuel for animated films at Swiss Radio and Television SRF and as a freelance script consultant for international feature and documentary film productions. She is a member of the board of directors of Theater Neumarkt in Zurich and sits on numerous expert commissions in Switzerland and abroad, including the Austrian Film Institute's script department and Focal's script coaching pool. She regularly chairs discussions at Swiss film festivals, for example at the Film Club at the Solothurn Film Festival, at Master Classes at the Zurich Film Festival or at the Industry Day at Fantoche.

Catherine Ann Berger, born in 1965, of Swiss and English nationality, studied theater and film studies at the University of Vienna. She presented the 3sat program "Kulturzeit" (1997 - 2003) and worked as a film critic for Swiss television. After training as a script consultant, she worked as a producer at Catpics Coproductions and co-wrote the screenplay for "Die Herbstzeitlosen" (directed by Bettina Oberli). For many years she ran the Forum discussion panel with Jean Perret at the Visions du Réel festival in Nyon.
