Blick editorial cadre backs Bleicher

Editorial executives of Blick are backing Andrea Bleicher, editor-in-chief ad interim. In a letter to CEO Marc Walder, they demand that Bleicher be confirmed as editor-in-chief.

Persoenlich.com made the letter public on Wednesday evening. Blick confirmed the receipt of the letter, but could not comment on it at the moment, Edi Estermann, head of communications, told the news agency SDA.

The trigger for the letter, was a report in the NZZ am Sonntag, which reported on the impending removal of Andrea Bleicher. According to NZZ am Sonntag, she was to be replaced by business journalist and former Facts editor-in-chief René Lüchinger (Werbewoche.ch reported).

The editorial management, department heads and their deputies of Blick, Blick Online and Sonntagsblick cannot explain the non-confirmation of Andrea Bleicher, as it says in the letter. In their view, there is not the slightest reason to do so. Bleicher had distinguished herself within a very short time, she had also personally given the newspaper a face. "But this fruitful atmosphere of departure is now apparently to end, after only half a year," the letter says. The unanimous reaction to this is consternation. The authors of the letter are not concerned with Lüchinger's professional and human qualities. It is rather a question of whether a change is necessary and what the consequences would be. (SDA)
