Blick launches the biggest Swiss e-sports tournament

77 million people in Europe watched eSports broadcasts online in 2017. Around four million of these were from German-speaking countries. The Blick Group is now also focusing on the e-sports scene in Switzerland and, together with EA Sports and FIFA, is launching the View E-Sports Cup as the biggest FIFA E-Sports tournament in Switzerland. At the same time, the event is a qualifying tournament for Switzerland, Germany and Austria for the EA Sports FIFA 18 Global Series Playoffs and therefore allows the winners access to the FIFA eWorldCup 2018.

The games will be played at 80 gaming stations on both Sony Playstation 4 and Microsoft Xbox One. The winner will not only qualify for the World Cup, but also win prizes worth a total of over 10,000 Swiss francs. The Blick Group will stream the highlights of the tournament live on Blick.ch, Facebook, YouTube and Twitch. For twelve hours, the stream offers everything about the Cup, the players and e-sports.

Lukas Troxler, Head of Product Management Sports and Member of the Executive Board of the Blick Group, said in a statement: "The enthusiasm among the young target group for eSports is overwhelming worldwide, and although the scene is still in its infancy in Switzerland, there is also a loyal fan base here - and promising players. Sport is also important for the eye, so it makes sense to give electronic sports a platform as well."

Due to the increasing importance of e-sports, the Blick Group will report more strongly on them in the future. With "BlickeSports," a separate section for digital sports is being launched on Blick.ch, Facebook and Instagram. In addition to news from the e-sports sector, visitors to the social media channels will also find entertaining content on the topic.
