AZ cuts seven jobs in editorial department

AZ Medien, the media company owned by publisher Peter Wanner, is cutting about seven full-time positions from the editorial staff of AZ Nordwestschweiz. Various departments, including the sports department, are affected by the cuts, which are being made to save costs.

A spokeswoman for the media company confirmed a report by Persoenlich.ch on Friday. All business areas of AZ Medien are constantly being reviewed for cost potential, it said. This is due to the ongoing structural decline in the print market and the continuing high level of investment activity, particularly in electronic and digital media. In addition to AZ Nordwestschweiz, AZ Medien includes Aargauer Zeitung, Solothurner Zeitung and regional broadcasters such as Tele Züri and Tele M1. The media company increased its turnover by 2.3 percent to CHF 247.7 million in 2014. However, the bottom line was a loss of 6 million francs. (SDA)
