Axel Springer Schweiz: Handelszeitung celebrates 150th anniversary

The Handelszeitung will celebrate its 150th anniversary on May 11, 2011. To mark the anniversary of the Swiss business newspaper, Axel Springer Switzerland is hosting a ceremony in Zurich for numerous invited guests, including Gerold Bührer (Economiesuisse), Mathias Döpfner (Axel Springer), Pierin Vinzenz (Raiffeisen Group), Roger de Weck (SRG), and Kaspar Villiger (UBS).

The Handelszeitung is accompanying the 150th anniversary with a comprehensive special supplement on May 12, 2011, in which various authors review the eventful history of the business newspaper and the Swiss economy over the past fifteen decades. In addition, the anniversary will also mark the completion of the weekly newspaper's content and visual realignment.

Following the introduction of a new structure in autumn 2010, the weekly newspaper is now being published with new typography, additional explanatory graphics in the stock market section and the revised double-page spread "Savoir Vivre", which is dedicated to colorful lifestyle topics such as cars, art, pleasure and wellness.

Handelszeitung's birthday marks the launch of the "Suite 150" initiative, which enables traditional Swiss companies that are more than 150 years old to pass on their know-how to young entrepreneurs. In addition to the Handelszeitung, the founders of "Suite 150" include companies such as Credit Suisse, Swiss Life, Confiserie Sprüngli, Privatbank Wegelin, TAG Heuer, Orell Füssli and Pictet & Cie Banquiers.

The Handelszeitung, published by Axel Springer Switzerland, appears weekly with a certified circulation of 40,822 copies. This makes the weekly newspaper the largest business publication in Switzerland and regularly reaches 138,000 readers.
