Axel Springer building in Berlin is covered with "We are Pope!" front page
To mark his first official state visit to Germany, the German newspaper *Bild* is welcoming Pope Benedict XVI with a special campaign: Starting Monday, September 19, 2011, the front page reading «We Are the Pope!» will be displayed on the Axel Springer building in Berlin.
When Joseph Ratzinger was elected pope on April 19, 2005, Bild ran the headline "We are Pope!" one day later. It was an expression of collective joy, but also of the high expectations for the pontificate of the first German pope in 500 years, Bild editor-in-chief Kai Diekmann is quoted as saying in a statement. "We want to tie in with this unique moment from back then and express that it is a very special event for Germany to receive 'its pope.'"
The multiple award-winning Bild front page from April 20, 2005 will be on display in a size of 45 x 64 meters on two sides of the Axel Springer building in Berlin from September 19 to 27, 2011. According to the press release, this is a logistical challenge because the two tarpaulins weigh 1,235 kilograms each and are each unrolled as a single sheet of fabric.
