comedia and the communications union become Syndicom
The media union Comedia has agreed to merge with the communications union Geko. The new union is called Syndicom and has 47,000 members.
Syndicom will be presided over by Comedia co-president Danièle Lenzin and Geko president Alain Carrupt. The new union will become operational on January 1, 2011. Following the Geko delegates, who have already approved the merger by 142 votes to 4 with 3 abstentions, the Comedia delegates also said yes to the joint project on Friday by 84 votes to 4. This was stated by Comedia spokeswoman Nina Scheu at the request of SDA.
Syndicom will thus become one of the three largest unions in the Swiss Federation of Trade Unions. More important, however, is more union and political clout, more weight in the public debate and the social partnership, as Syndicom announced on Friday.
