Stopbillag.ch also takes referendum against RTVG
Like the trade association, the association Aktion Stopbillag.ch is also launching a referendum against the revised Radio and Television Act (RTVA), as it announced on Wednesday.
The association is particularly bothered by the fact that all households will have to pay a reception fee in future. Stopbillag published a website with the signature form and arguments on Wednesday, according to the press release. The revised RTVA is "highly dangerous" because it would impose a new tax on all households and companies. The Stopbillag.ch association is already collecting signatures for an initiative to abolish Billag reception fees. The Swiss Trade Association (sgv) is also fighting the new RTVA because it stipulates that all companies with an annual turnover of CHF 500,000 or more will have to pay reception fees. It announced the collection of signatures for a referendum at the beginning of October.
The National Council and Council of States passed the revision of the Radio and Television Act in the fall session. It brings a change to the system: all households must pay reception fees - regardless of whether they own radio or TV sets. Companies with an annual turnover of CHF 500,000 or more will also be asked to pay. The system change is justified by the fact that radio and TV broadcasts can now also be listened to and watched on computers, tablets and smartphones. In order for the referendum to come to fruition, 50,000 valid signatures must be collected by January 15, 2015. (SDA)
