7,500 francs for the realization of a travel reportage

In the spring of 2014, the «Imholz Award» for the best travel report idea will be presented for the second time. The winner will be able to bring their idea to life with the prize money—regardless of sponsorship from the tourism industry.

In recent years, it has become increasingly difficult for travel journalists to realize their own reportage ideas independently of sponsors. This is where the "Imholz Sponsorship Award" comes in. Every year, it awards the best concept for an exceptional travel report with 7,500 francs. The Imholz Foundation and the Swiss Travelwriters Club (STC), the leading platform for travel journalists and media work in tourism, jointly award the prize.

Hans Imholz was the club's godfather when it was founded in the 90s. The Zurich native's heart still beats for travel. When Hans Imholz is not traveling around the world, he enjoys reading travel reports. "I often open a newspaper, just want to leaf through it quickly, but then I get stuck on a travel article and I've already experienced a few enjoyable minutes again." It's worth fighting for these little gifts of everyday life, says the travel pioneer, so that even more reports like those by Andrea Freiermuth (Werbewoche.ch reported), the first winner of the "Imholz Sponsorship Award". The Fricktal native traveled through the Amazon basin by bus and boat for two months in the summer of 2013.

This year, a three-person jury consisting of Sonja Hüsler (member of the Swiss Travelwriters Club board), Katharina Deuber (member of the Swiss Travelwriters Club board) and Christoph Ammann (head of the travel section of the Sonntagszeitung newspaper and STC founding member) will once again select the best reportage idea.

The deadline for submitting concepts is March 31, 2014 and the winner will be announced by the end of April at the latest. The prize money will enable the winner to implement their concept in the following months. They must submit the finished report by the end of the year. The second winning report will also appear in the Sonntagszeitung. You can find the conditions of participation here.
