From August 7 to 17, the Piazza Grande will host one of the world's most important film festivals for the 77th time: the Locarno Film Festival. This year, Switzerland's oldest international film festival once again impresses with an impressive program consisting of over 200 national and international film gems - including 35 SRG co-productions in nine categories.

The highlights include: The feature film "Der Spatz im Kamin" by Ramon Zürcher (SRF/SRG), which is competing for the Golden Leopard in the main competition. The series "Espèce menacée" by Bruno Deville (RTS) in the Fuori Concorso section. The sci-fi thriller "Electric Child" by Simon Jaquemet (SRF/SRG/Arte) in the Piazza Grande. The documentary "We Heirs" by Simon Baumann (SRF) in the parallel section Semaine de la Critique and the drama "Hanami" by Denise Fernandes (RSI) in the Concorso Cineasti del Presente competition.

SRG as a media partner

SRG is once again a media partner of the Locarno Film Festival and, through this collaboration, offers Swiss filmmakers an international stage where they can present their works to a broad international (specialist) audience. "With SRG as a partner, our bold festival of discoveries will be made accessible to a wide audience," said Raphaël Brunschwig, Managing Director of the Locarno Film Festival, in a press release.

The large number of national and international films also promotes cultural diversity, mutual understanding and exchange. This also applies to the Notte Svizzera, which is dedicated entirely to Swiss films and serves as a platform for exchange between cultural policy and the film industry. SRG supports this event, which takes place on the first Saturday evening of the festival, together with the other funding institutions.

SRG also supports the Pardi di Domani competition for short and medium-length films with the "Pardino d'Oro SRG SSR per il miglior cortometraggio internazionale" and "Pardino d'Argento SRG SSR per il Concorso Internazionale" prizes, worth CHF 10,000 and CHF 5,000 respectively. SRG also contributes the "Grand Prix Semaine de la critique/Prix SRG SSR" prize worth CHF 5,000. This is awarded in the independent Semaine de la Critique section, which is organized by the Swiss Association of Film Journalists in collaboration with the director and organizers of the Locarno Film Festival.
