20th "Eugen" prizes awarded

Journalists Patrick Vallélian, Guido Berger, and Bruno Bonometti were awarded the «Eugen» Prize on Thursday in Bern for their accessible journalistic coverage of computer science topics. Bedag presented the awards for the 20th time.

Vallélian was honored for two articles in the French-speaking Swiss magazine L'Hébdo, as Bedag Informatik announced on Thursday. In it, he examined the question of how secure official Switzerland and its data are against attacks from the Internet.

In the radio report "The cable in Madagascar", Guido Berger explained how two newly laid optical fibers gave 20 million islanders access to the Internet. And Bruno Bonometti showed in the Swiss television business magazine "Eco" how computers can trade securities independently and up to 15 times faster than traders.

Journalist Mirjam Fonti received a special mention for her report "Lukas B: Portrait of a careless Internet user" in the consumer magazine "Saldo". This year's Electronic Government Award for special achievements in the online area of public administration goes to the Canton of Schaffhausen. (SDA)
