140 characters on Twitter soon a thing of the past?
Twitter apparently plans to remove the 140-character limit on tweets. The new limit is reportedly set to be 10,000 characters.
On Tuesday, for example, co-founder and chief executive Jack Dorsey advocated allowing longer messages. This, although the 140-character limit encouraged users to be short and creative. Nevertheless, it is a need of many users to be able to upload longer texts, which happens today as a fallback solution by means of screenshots. Dorsey also published his remarks in this way for visualization.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the limit will be raised to 10'000 characters - the same limit that currently applies to private messages between Twitter users. In the feed, however, only the first 140 characters are to continue to be displayed - the rest can be opened if required. The 10,000-character limit is also predicted by the well-informed tech blog Recode. With the changes, Twitter wants to become more attractive for newcomers and thus give new impetus to its stalled growth. (hae)
