UD Print stops production and cuts 40 jobs

UD Print in Lucerne is shutting down print production in 2014 and eliminating 40 jobs. Sales, prepress and digital printing with 30 jobs will be sold to Galledia St. Gallen on October 1, but will remain in Lucerne as UD Medien.

UD Medien confirmed a report by Neue Luzerner Zeitung on Tuesday. It will focus on the real estate business, according to a statement. In addition, Kalender+Werbe will remain in the portfolio. UD Medien justifies the closure of print production and the sale of distribution, prepress and digital printing with a failed capital increase. This would be a prerequisite for restructuring UD Print, UD Medien announced.

According to the announcement, print production will be gradually shut down over the course of the next year. This will affect around 40 people. Consultation talks are underway, and the first layoffs are expected to take place in October, according to a spokesperson. Sales, prepress and digital printing will be combined in the newly founded UD Medien. They and their 30 employees will remain at their current location in Lucerne. Galledia previously operated in eastern Switzerland and Zurich and employs around 220 people. (SDA)
