Switch Junior Web Award 2012: Young web talents wanted

The website competition for school classes kicks off today for the sixth time. Switch is looking for school classes from all over Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein who, together with their teachers, would like to explore the possibilities of the World Wide Web and design their own website.

Switch launched the competition for the first time in 2007, on the occasion of its 20th anniversary. The aim is to promote Internet and media skills among the younger generation. Since then, over 1,800 school classes have registered for the competition. Last year, the competition set another record with 192 completed projects, with around 40 more projects submitted than in the previous year.

Pupils design their own website
Participating school classes can design and publish their own website free of charge and without any programming knowledge. In doing so, they practise using modern communication technologies in a fun way. Whether humorous, with a learning effect or completely personal - the school classes decide together on a topic and the implementation on the Internet. As a Swiss Internet pioneer, Switch aims to promote knowledge of the World Wide Web and familiarity with this medium among young people. The generation of tomorrow should be given the opportunity to get to grips with modern technologies. All school classes from Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein at elementary school, lower secondary school and upper secondary school level can now take part.

Participation
After registering at Juniorwebaward.ch Switch accompanies the participating school classes and their teachers with information material and offers a child-friendly CMS program to design the website. The classes can familiarize themselves with the web topic and then independently create a website on the topic of their choice. The deadline for submitting projects is March 15, 2012, followed by a public vote and evaluation of the websites by a professional jury. The best three projects in the three age categories of elementary school, lower secondary school and upper secondary school will be chosen. The winning classes will be honored at an awards ceremony at the end of May 2012.
