In the future, officially approved medications may be advertised with statements such as «medication approved by the authorities.» On Wednesday, the National Council, acting as the second chamber, approved a motion to that effect.
Swissmedic approval is a sign of the high quality and safety of a product, which should be permitted in advertising, wrote Councillor of States Joachim Eder (FDP/ZG) on his motion. In addition, buyers would be able to recognize more quickly whether a product is a medicine or a dietary supplement. The National Council tacitly supported the motion. The Federal Council did not oppose it. In its response to the motion, it stated that it was in favor of an official seal of quality that would indicate the quality of products in advertising. When implementing the motion, the Federal Council wants to ensure that it does not make it more difficult for patients to form an informed opinion. (SDA)
