Superspot: Microsoft launches horror video
The ADC scale for evaluating advertisements ranges from «World-Class» to «Appalling.» The Microsoft Songsmith commercial falls well below the scale. A «Hiroshima» rating would be appropriate.
In a promotional video released in 2009, Microsoft advertises Songsmith, a new computer program that lets you cobble together your own karaoke tracks. The promo video is simply awful—and to make matters worse, it’s meant to be taken completely seriously. It could easily have come from some bizarre parallel universe where irony hasn’t been invented yet. One nice touch—and the ad is full of nice touches—is that the girl in the video is running the program on a Mac. To really convince you that this is an official ad, you should check it out right now on the Microsoft website.
