Stefan Wyer heads new media office of the Swiss Guard

The Papal Swiss Guard now maintains a liaison office and its own media office in Switzerland, headed by Stefan Wyer.

This measure is also intended to ensure the next generation. In the meantime, 135 men are in their service, the papal Swiss Guard announced on Thursday. This has also increased the need for new recruits.

The new office is to support recruitment through more active public relations work and serve as a point of contact for the Swiss media. In addition, the liaison office will represent the concerns of the Swiss Guard with the authorities and politicians.

The new post will be headed by Valais-based business, communications and political consultant Stefan Wyer. The 57-year-old former journalist most recently worked as head of communications and location marketing at Lonza Visp and was a personal assistant to former Federal Councillor Ruth Metzler-Arnold from 1999 to 2004.
