City open for Express

The countdown to the relaunch of the Zü-richExpress (ZE) as a commuter newspaper has begun, but the date of the launch, which was announced as a surprise coup, remains a secret. However, the city of Zurich has nothing to prevent the ZE from being relaunched, city clerk Martin Brunner told WerbeWoche. In its capacity as the city's official gazette, the free newspaper is bound until 2005. "However, this contract can also be changed at short notice," he said. Official talks with Tamedia had not taken place, but unofficial ones had. The expansion into a commuter newspaper was one of several options. "Of course, the level has to be right," adds Brunner, "if it were to be called Sex-Express at the back in future, then that would not be compatible with official advertisements." (dse)
