Spina's Civil Voices explains the commodity curse
On behalf of the Berne Declaration, the agency Spinas Civil Voices produced a video clip designed to raise awareness about the «resource curse.».
Due to corruption, inequality and conflicts, many developing countries suffer from their wealth of raw materials instead of benefiting from it. As the world's most important raw materials center, Switzerland is a major contributor to this "raw materials curse". It is true that the importance of the raw materials sector has now been recognized. And three years after the publication of the EvB book "Raw Materials - Switzerland's Most Dangerous Business," politicians and the public are also aware of the risks of this industry. Unfortunately, however, the problems are being suppressed and convincing proposals for solutions have so far been awaited in vain. Against this background and the experiences with the financial center, the EvB therefore proposes the establishment of a commodity market supervision Rohma - analogous to Finma on the financial market.
To increase pressure on policymakers, EvB has worked with Spina's Civil Voices to develop a video clip that will both raise awareness and mobilize.
