Davos becomes a witches' cauldron between the years:Shortlist: The Davos Trap
By Beat Fritsch
Road traffic is like in Zurich (traffic jams without end), discos and bars are bursting at the seams at night, and the Spengler Cup takes place in the ice hockey stadium - a witches' cauldron within a witches' cauldron, so to speak, especially when the HaCeDe, or Hockey Club Davos, makes an appearance.
The communications industry is not immune to this. That's why the SonntagsZeitung's invitations to the Spengler Cup, including accommodation in the elegant Hotel Seehof as well as various aperitifs and fine dinners, are very popular. For example, Martin Kall, Sandra Geiger and Daniel Pauletto from the Tamedia and SoZ top management were traditionally to be found with guests for drinks and snacks in the "Pöstli" on the day before the final.
As we all know, advertisers and media people are also gamblers - it's the nature of the profession. So the SoZ guests were not satisfied with the simple ice hockey bets organized by Pauletto. The evening's field hockey fans from Zurich were all to be seen in the new Davos casino (unlike the SoZ Gambling Night with their own real money!), with Fredy Weissert feeling particularly at home at the blackjack table and Andy Lehmann and his daughter at the slot machines. Always closely observed by SoZ editor-in-chief Andreas Durisch, who, however, kept a low profile in the game of chance and didn't fall into the gambling trap himself. Incidentally, only the daughter won.
Davos is also a magnet for industry people outside of the Spengler Cup. Sandra Ulrich, Beat Stähli and Matthias Luchsinger, among others, have been spotted in Davos. And even more are likely to find their way through Prättigau to Landwasser Valley in the future. The new Davos Tourism Marketing Manager Barbara Studer, who used to work for Wunderman, among others, and enjoys personally looking after guests from Zurich, will make sure of this.
