SF no longer wants externally financed broadcasts
Following the cancellation of the cooking show «Ab in die Küche,» Swiss television is changing its strategy: Effective immediately, it will no longer air any entertainment programs that were entirely externally funded—for editorial and quality reasons.
"As of now, the lead is once again with us," SRF spokesman Martin Reichlin said in an interview with Zürcher Unterländer on Tuesday. Television wants to make the decisions itself again for all broadcasts.
This was not the case with "Ab in die Küche": Schweizer Fernsehen did have a say in the concept phase. But afterwards, management was handed over to partners Ringier and Betty Bossi, who bore the bulk of the costs, built a studio themselves in Hüntwangen ZH, and in return placed their products.
This should no longer happen in the future. The intention is to say goodbye to these fully financed models, Reichlin said. "It's a bad fit for public service and restricts our journalistic freedom." Classic sponsoring, however, will continue to be welcome, he added.
At least, because the partners paid for practically everything themselves, the fee payers have to pay almost nothing for the kitchen flop. The follow-up format is to be created again in collaboration with Ringier Entertainment and Betty Bossi. However, there is no concept yet. (SDA)
