New Lürzer's Archive 200 Best Food & Drink

What do Marie Antoinette and a hot dog have in common? They’re both on the cover of the new Lürzer’s Archive 200 Best Food & Drink 2000–2010.

The 330-page book is another product in the 200 Best series. Divided into different categories, it features the 200 best ads related to food & drink of the last decade. This time, the Facebook community was involved in the decision-making process for choosing the cover, according to a Lürzer's Archive release. The choices were a McDonald's poster by DDB, Stockholm; a beer ad by Catalan agency Caldas Naya; a soy sauce ad by TBWA, Hong Kong; a chili powder campaign by Crayons Agency, New Delhi; a coffee-filled confectionery ad by Leo Burnett, Milan; and a burst orange for Chupa Chups lollipops by George Patterson, Y&R, Melbourne.

This poll achieved the highest participation of fans on Facebook to date: A total of 1,662 users voted 1,000,736 times. The race for the cover was won by "Marie Antoinette," the ad for the Alsatian beer A. K. Damm from the Caldas Naya agency - the clear favorite with over a third of the votes. Editor-in-chief Michael Weinzettl ultimately also gave his okay.

The brand with the most ads in the book is McDonald's with eight, closely followed by Heinz with seven. In beer advertising, Stella Artois leads the way with six ads, Guinness has five, and in non-alcoholic beverages, Pepsi and Evian are tied with three ads each in the book. All in all, 230 ads from the last decade made it into the book, divided into the categories: alcoholic beverages, non-alcoholic beverages, food, confectionery & snacks, and bars & restaurants.

Since 1998, Lürzer's Archiv has regularly produced special issues such as "Advertising Photography" and "Commercial Illustration" in addition to the bi-monthly magazine. The "200 Best" series has been published since 2004 and has already produced four "200 Best Photographers" and four "200 Best Illustrators". "Packaging Design" and "200 Best Automotive 2000 - 2010", published in 2009, complete the series, and "200 Best Food & Drink 2000 - 2010" is now being added as a further title.
