He recently saw Max again. It was in another commercial. "But the dog is still good," says Paul Riesen happily. Max and Riesen found each other at Migros. The famous jingle and the funny movies too, by the way.
"Sometimes you have to draw a line," says Paul Riesen. For him, it has to do with development that he wanted to do "something different" after 15 years as Head of Advertising for Migros. "In the non-food sector and in the specialist stores area, communication has probably contributed a great deal to market success. I look back on that with satisfaction."
Since May, Paul Riesen has been responsible for marketing and communication at Medien Z Holding AG. "My job is to help develop new marketing strategies for the company as a whole. Communication should become more professional," is how he summarizes his staff function. In addition to him, Benedikt Luginbühl is responsible for Swisscontent Corporation and Jürg Bachofen for the radio division in the new management team. Klaus Kappeler will also act as Managing Director.
The newly formed marketer of radio, TV and online media has set itself a target of "100 million francs in sales" for the future. "However, this is not the essential information, but the movement behind this goal," says Riesen, explaining his new motivation. He sees part of his future in the new media as a particularly attractive area.
We need to talk not just about business to consumer, but about business to business. Riesen is convinced that this is where the future is slowly but promisingly beginning to take shape.
Instead of working with 34 people as he did at Migros, Riesen will now have to tackle these tasks as a lone fighter. A change that attracts him just as much as the change of scenery. This means that he will be on the train almost every day on his way to potential business partners such as Banner.ch. It's also fitting that the father of two grown-up children still wants to live in Münsingen.
"In a large company, you feel a certain embeddedness. On the free market, the wind is stiffer," says the communications and marketing man, analyzing another insight into his new situation. In this situation, Riesen can no longer spend around 130 million francs a year as he did back then as head of advertising; instead, he now has to generate 100 million francs in sales. "Earning is even more fun, that's human nature, at least for me," he says of the new challenge.
