SAC and Swiss Hiking Trail campaign: No more "shitty moments"

A long day of hiking can be a challenge for digestion. But the Swiss Alpine Club (SAC) and the Swiss Hiking Trails Association aren’t at all happy about «messy moments.» A new awareness campaign is intended to help.

A sore bladder detracts from the pleasure of hiking just as much as tissues lying around and spoiling the idyllic landscape. However, an improperly performed urination is not only unpleasant for outdoor fans, but also harmful to nature. The SAC and the Swiss Hiking Trail Association have launched a joint social media campaign to raise awareness of the problem and educate people about the right way to behave when they need to relieve themselves on the trail.

Doing your small or large business in an environmentally conscious way during a hike or a high-altitude tour is not rocket science. However, it is best not to let it get that far in the first place. The two organizations therefore recommend going to the toilet again before setting off and using the sanitary facilities available at cable cars, mountain huts or restaurants. If you can't make it to the nearest toilet, choose a quiet place away from the trail. The new joint campaign explains what you need to bear in mind: the SAC and the Swiss Hiking Trails have chosen an approach with the slogan #ScheissMoment that calls the issue by its name.

However, the outdoor organizations are not interested in provoking, but in raising awareness for an important cause. The three short videos at the heart of the campaign therefore do not provide any instructive tips on correct behavior, but instead show in a humorous way how not to do it. The videos show with a wink how such moments can occur on a tour if you don't follow the rules. All behavioral recommendations are described on the landing page www.scheissmoment.ch. The experiences of the community can be displayed on the integrated social wall with the hashtags #ScheissMoment or #KeinScheissMoment. The campaign starts on June 3.
