Mrs. lic. phil. Weather Fairy
Tamara Sedmak is on a high because she gets to help Sat 1 keep its news ratings from plummeting.
Tamara Sedmak is on a high because she is helping to ensure that the news on Sat 1 doesn't fall into a low with the public. 14 years old, she won a modeling competition in Paris out of 15,000 girls, worked with famous photographers in New York for four months with "sweet sixteen", graduated from the University of Zurich at 25, acted in various films and presented on Star TV and n-tv. Now Tamara Sedmak is to become a presenter in Berlin for Roger Schawinski's new campaign tool "News" on Sat 1 and N24. The contract also states that she is to present other news and entertainment shows, as well as modeling and studying.
"My professional dream was to be a pediatrician," the newly crowned weather fairy remembers 14 years ago, when a photographer from Paris approached her on the street "in a very clichéd way" and wanted to enter her for this modeling competition. Since then, everything has "somehow taken a different turn". The fact that Tamara chose to study journalism and economics at the University of Zurich in 1996 after her B-levels in Baden was more of a coincidence: it was a popular fashion course at the time. "But when I start something, I see it through," says the current Lic. Phil. I. It was worth it. At the casting in Berlin, they "really appreciated" how she was able to combine her many practical experiences with her studies.
The first modeling competition earned the former district school student a contract with the second largest modeling agency Karin in Paris. She modeled there every vacation accompanied by her parents. At the age of 15, Tamara went on to win the Elite Model Look in Zurich and was allowed to take part in the international final in New York as the Swiss representative. Although this did not bring her a win, it did earn her a contract with Click. During the transition period from district school to cantonal school, she modeled for this agency in New York and "cried with homesickness almost every day" for four months. After her return, however, many great pictures in her luggage brought her further assignments in Milan, Rome, Paris, Barcelona, Athens and London.
Tamara Sedmak also started working as a presenter for Sputnik TV while still at secondary school. She got to know these pioneers of young television at the time through a TV commercial in which a certain Tanja Gutmann also played a part. She later became Miss Switzerland. Tamara Sedmak was "only" enough to become the public's favorite in the TV vote when Anita Buri was voted Switzerland's most beautiful woman in the 1999 final.
Her growing fame opened the door for Tamara as a presenter on Star TV and in the travel magazine "Gipfelstürmer" on n-tv in Germany. As a student, she presented events on the side, worked at Radio Argovia and Hitradio Z and also appeared in various radio commercials in several languages. Despite this, she was able to complete her thesis on "PR and the Internet, comparing the big banks CS and UBS" in record time. She also had enough time for small roles in TV commercials for Swissair, Lee, McDonald's and Maestro Lorenzo. Mostly for fun, she has appeared in the movies "Meier Marylin" and "Achtung, fertig, Charlie".
The Swiss presenter now wants to use her first undivided professional commitment in Berlin for the job at Schawinski. Her future boss at Sat 1 only realized after signing the contract that his new presenter was from Zurich.
Female meteorologists outperformed
She had to beat a total of ten competitors for her new job. Her competitors included two meteorologists and a previous weather forecaster. However, Tamara's "likeable charisma" and her skillful manner in front of the camera were more convincing than her technical knowledge. The presenter sees the fact that the show is broadcast live as the biggest challenge in her job. And this in front of an audience of millions. But anyone who has studied neuropsychology as a minor subject, like Tamara, will be able to get the fluttering heart under control.
