As part of the EU conference in Liverpool
the European Commission has advocated the liberalization of
Product placement pronounced. As the news agency Pressetext
reported, the planned new EU directive provides for the current
Prohibition of product placement through mandatory labeling
replaced. In future, the opening and closing credits of
Television programs must be identified if a program contribution from
was financed by advertisers. The majority of EU countries would not
welcome such a relaxation of the guidelines, it continues, only
Germany sees journalistic independence and credibility
of television at risk. In addition, German
consumer organizations consider the idea to be unrealistic, since hardly any
viewers watch the opening and closing credits and thus also see the reference to
not take advantage of external financing.
