City pool wobbles violently
Conveyor/BE1 leaves Extra Bern far behind
Conveyor/BE1 leaves Extra Bern far behindBy Markus Knöpfli The Radiocontrol data for the second half of 2001 are heating up discussions about new pool compositions, especially in German-speaking Switzerland. Because of the new situation in Bern, the city pool in particular is shaky.
Small landslide in French-speaking Switzerland: SRG radio stations gain a total of 13100 listeners compared to the first half of 2001, increasing their market share by a full 2 percent. The losers include all foreign stations and most Swiss private stations (exceptions: RTN 2001, Chablais). With a minus of 23100 listeners, Nostalgie is one of the big losers. But Lausanne FM (minus 9600 listeners) and Framboise (minus 6800) also lost ground. With Nostalgie's heavy loss, the gap to second-place Framboise narrowed from 43400 listeners in the first half of the year to 27100. There is no doubt that this will have an impact on the discussions about the currently shaky Top Romandie pool.
The overall situation in German-speaking Switzerland is less dramatic. There, both SRG and the Swiss private stations made slight gains at the expense of the German Radio 7, with the gap between SRG stations and private stations narrowing somewhat. In addition, unlike in the first half of the year, Radio 24 is now the strongest radio station in terms of both listener numbers and market share, and its lead over Z has even increased by 11,600 to 4,39,000 listeners. The largest increase of all private stations in German-speaking Switzerland was recorded by Radio Top, which gained 23600 listeners. Argovia, in fourth place, lost 9100 listeners.
There were spectacular developments in Bern: Förderband/BE1 (previously in 19th place) overtook Extra Bern thanks to 14,600 new listeners, more than half of whom it probably snatched from its regional archrival (and the rest from Radio BeO). As a result, Extra Bern, which belongs to Espace Media Groupe and fell from 14th to 17th place, probably loses its right to remain in the city pool.
In the Basel region, the situation has also become more accentuated: The gap between Basilisk (9th) and Edelweiss, which has dropped from 17th to 20th place, has widened. Radio Regenbogen remained relatively stable.
The figures for central Switzerland should be treated with caution, because the three players there have been awarded larger broadcast areas. Whether this will further intensify the rivalry between Pilatus and Sunshine remains to be seen.
The competition between Virus and Radio 105 intensified slightly, with the latter remaining stable and Virus gaining ground.
There was also one new development on the Zurich square: Radio Tropic had itself identified for the first time.
In Ticino, on the other hand, Publica Data does not currently report the stations 3iii and Fiume Ticino, nor Pool Ticino and Ticino Svizzero. In general, it should be noted that only the foreign private stations operating in Ticino were able to make gains, at the expense of all other competitors including SRG.
