International Advertising Festival (IAF) and Haymarket Media want to relaunch the Spikes Asian Advertising Award and develop it into the biggest regional advertising festival in Asia. The Cannes Lions sister project will be launched in September 2009, probably in Singapore.

International Advertising Festival (IAF) and Haymarket Media want to relaunch the Spikes Asian Advertising Award and expand it into the largest regional advertising festival in Asia. The IAF is the organizer of the renowned advertising festivals Cannes Lions, Dubai Lynx and Eurobest. The Spikes Asian Advertising Festival has already been held for 22 years, during the last three years in Bali.
The new festival will start in 2009 and will be held annually in September. It will be accompanied by exhibitions, awards ceremonies, seminars and workshops. The first venue will probably be Singapore, according to a statement on Monday. According to Phil Thomas, managing director of Cannes Lions, the strategy behind the relaunch of the spike is to build a series of world-class regional festivals to support the "global event" Cannes Lions.
The Spikes will be open to companies whose advertising runs in Asia. Awards will be given for Press, Film, Outdoor, Radio, Cyber, Integrated, Direct & Promo, Media, Craft and Design. A "Young Tigers competition" will be held to promote young talent.
