Sustainability ranking: Swiss companies make slight gains

The Swiss economy has become more sustainable in the past year. This is shown by the sustainability ranking, which Handelszeitung has compiled for the second time in collaboration with ISS ESG, an investor service provider specializing in sustainability.

NachhaltigkeitsrankingThe study examined 153 listed companies and some cooperatives such as Migros and Coop. The hearing aid manufacturer Sonova from Stäfa comes out on top. But Migros also does well. It lands in third place, well ahead of competitor Coop.

Among SMI companies, Novartis is leading the way. The Basel-based pharmaceutical group wants to become climate-neutral as early as 2030, across the entire value chain, which is a particular challenge. 90 percent of CO2 emissions come from suppliers.

The Handelszeitung According to the survey, SMI companies scored an average of 53 out of 100 points. This represents a slight improvement of 2.4 percentage points compared with the previous year. However, this is mainly due to the fact that the Swatch Group, which is notoriously low on the environment, climate and society, dropped out of the SMI and was replaced by Logitech (49.9 points), which performed significantly better. The watchmaker scored just 16.9 points in 2020.
