BOSW ranking: Hinderling Volkart remains on top

Hinderling Volkart confirms its lead in the BOSW ranking - just three and a half points ahead of second-placed agency Jung von Matt/Limmat.

Due to a data transmission error, Best of Swiss Web published an incorrect ranking on Tuesday. The ranking, which was also published on Werbewoche.ch, was subsequently deleted. According to the correction, Hinderling Volkart was able to maintain last year's top position in Best of Swiss Web all-time ranking. The management of Best of Swiss Web apologizes in a statement to all readers, media partners and the affected agencies for this mishap.

Hinderling Volkart was able to defend its first place in the perpetual best list 2001 - 2016 of the Best of Swiss Web Awards. However, it is now closely followed by the agency Jung von Matt/Next, which is again in second place, only a few points behind the leader. Nothing has changed on the third podium, which is still occupied by Namics.

Zühlke leads sales ranking

There is a new number one in the Netzwoche ranking of the web service providers with the highest turnover: Zühlke Engineering. The company trumps last year's number one, Namics, with annual sales of around CHF 60 million for the use of web technologies. Namics turned over an estimated 45.2 million Swiss francs with web services last year. It is interesting to note that Zühlke is traditionally a technology provider that now also offers web services. This also shows that the boundaries between web technology and traditional IT are blurring. A development that is likely to accelerate as a result of the digital transformation. Enterprise customers are interested in new kinds of processes. What these are based on, whether web or traditional IT technology, is less questioned. It also shows that the web industry, initially perceived as exotic, is here to stay. The complete ranking with 85 Swiss web service providers on Netzwoche.ch

E: Regarding the survey: Of those agencies that did not want to report their sales this year or - for example, for reasons of stock exchange law - could not report them, the editors have made plausibility checks; e.g. by consulting available data (e.g. annual reports), asking by telephone or assigning average values or estimates. These sales are marked with *. *: Refers to number of full-time positions Switzerland: only in Digital/Online/Mobile **: Refers to 2015 sales in millions of Swiss francs, Online/Mobile/Digital (Switzerland) only, excluding Media.

What's keeping the web industry busy?

The Netzwoche editorial team conducted a survey among web service providers again this year. Last year, the topic of mobile was at the top of the priority list for 54.6 percent of respondents, followed by recruitment (49.5 percent) or the shortage of skilled workers. In the current survey, the challenges surrounding digital transformation are at the top of the list (59.8 percent), followed by recruitment (50 percent) and mobile (48.8 percent).

The industry appears to have recovered well from the franc shock. Whereas a year ago the sudden appreciation of the Swiss franc was still a cause for concern for a good 24.3 percent of survey participants, the significance of the strength of the Swiss franc compared with foreign currencies fell by half this year to 12.2 percent of mentions.

Concern about foreign competition also decreased significantly compared to last year's survey. Whereas last year 23.2 percent of survey participants had named foreign project teams as an important issue, this year the figure was 13.4 percent. The order situation has obviously improved. Whereas last year 38.4 percent of service providers were concerned about the order situation, this year it was an issue for only 30.5 percent.
