Swap bike for car
CLIMATE In collaboration with the Swiss Federal Office of Energy, Coop is supporting the national summer campaign "Bike4Car" run by the climate protection organization myblueplanet: Customers have the opportunity to swap their car for an e-bike at Coop Bau+Hobby free of charge for two weeks. The market for e-bikes in Switzerland has grown enormously in recent years. Almost one in six bikes sold today is an e-bike. This is not only due to increased environmental awareness. After all, e-bikes are a lot of fun to ride, are good for your health and get you to your destination surprisingly quickly. To strengthen its commitment to sustainable mobility, Coop is taking part in "Bike4Car" as one of the largest bicycle retailers in Switzerland.Return the car and start the test driveAn extensive test ride is crucial for the fun of riding. Interested customers can swap their car for a Coop e-bike for two weeks at Coop Bau+Hobby. Of course, the car is only handed in symbolically by signing a waiver letter."Bike4Car": And this is how it worksAnyone who signs the "Bike4Car" waiver letter in one of 56 selected Bau+Hobby DIY stores throughout Switzerland from May 4 to September 26, 2015, will receive an e-bike free of charge for two weeks and can get to know the advantages of electromobility at their leisure. At the end of the two test weeks, the customer will receive a discount of 500 francs on the rented bike from Coop Bau+Hobby if they are interested.Interesting facts about the e-bikeA study conducted by the Swiss Federal Office of Energy (SFOE) in August 2014 on the spread and impact of e-bikes in Switzerland shows that for 80 percent of e-bike owners, the e-bike has become the most important or second most important means of transportation for everyday mobility. On average, each person travels around 2,600 km per year on an e-bike. This has led to other means of transportation being used much less frequently. In terms of volume, there has been a significant shift from cars to e-bikes. This shows a high energy impact of e-bike use in Switzerland. In 2013 alone, around 42,000 tons of CO2 equivalents were saved. These primarily stem from the shift from car kilometers to e-bikes. With an average consumption of seven liters per 100 kilometers, this corresponds to a car journey of almost 190,000,000 thousand kilometers or almost 4,800 times around the world! In addition to the energy effect, e-bike use also has a positive impact on the strain on transport infrastructure capacity.
