Telus mainly provided Swisscom with telephone customer service. Swisscom has now terminated the contract on time, as the telecommunications company confirmed media reports on Tuesday.

The main reason for the termination was the significant decline in contact volumes that has been ongoing for several months. The reasons for this include automation measures at Swisscom and an increasing number of customers who are resolving their concerns via self-service and online.

This trend will continue and it therefore makes sense to bundle services with fewer partners, writes Swisscom.

Maintain operation

The media union Syndicom is representing those affected in the ongoing consultation process with the company, as a spokesperson confirmed media reports on Tuesday.

Syndicom demands "that a way be found to continue operations". If this is not possible, Syndicom demands "a social plan worthy of the name".

Syndicom is also working with its social partner Swisscom to ensure that as much order volume as possible remains stable and in Switzerland.

Interested call center employees can apply for advertised positions at Swisscom, it says.

Telus itself was unable to provide any information about the planned closure on Tuesday. (SDA)
