Swiss Photo Award presented in Zurich
The Swiss Foto Award - vfg. selection 2017 was awarded to seven photographers on Thursday evening in Zurich. The prize is endowed with a total of 35,000 Swiss francs.
Twenty-one photographers were nominated for the award. The category winners - Andrea Helbling, Zurich (Architecture), Anita Vozza, Magglingen BE (Editorial), Lorenz Cugini, Zurich (Fashion), Jessica Wolfelsperger, Basel (Fine Art), Jaromir Kreiliger, Castrisch GR (Free), Christian Bobst, Zurich (Reportage) and Diego Alborghetti, Zurich (Advertising) - each received 5000 Swiss francs.
On Wednesday evening, the jury changed its original decision from January at short notice: At that time, the photographer Roshan Adhihetty was in 1st place in the category Reportage with his photos on the subject of nude hiking.
The change had become necessary because Adhihetty's work was subject to a great deal of artistic manipulation - from staging to indications of the exact pose of the hikers to digital interventions - according to a statement issued Thursday (Werbewoche reported). This had not been known to the jury in January, but only became clear during the presentation by the photographer on Wednesday.
The "outstandingly coherent, artistic documentary work" with its interventions does not comply with the basic journalistic principles for a work in the reportage category, it continues. The prize therefore goes to "Der Fels von Gnor" by Christian Bobst, Zurich. (SDA)
