Swiss advertising student wins Webby People's Voice Award
The Genderless Nipples project, created by three Miami Ad School advertising students, has won a "People's Voice - Webby Award".
Instragram's censorship policy allows male nipples to be posted, while women's are banned. This reinforces the idea that the female body is seen as a sexual object while the male body is not. To trick this censorship policy, the three students posted close-ups of nipples without revealing any sexual characteristics. Anyone in the world could take part in the campaign with "nipple selfies".
Genderless Nipples has sparked a global discussion about gender equality with the help of over 70,000 followers. The project has prompted Instagram to show nipples of all genders on the account for the first time. Genderless Nipples to tolerate.
The initiators of the project are Evelyne Wyss from Switzerland (CW Miami Ad School Hamburg), Morgan-Lee Wagner from Germany (CW, Miami Ad School Berlin) and Marco Russo from Brazil (AD, Miami Ad School New York). The three students will graduate from the school in June - and start looking for a job.
The Webby Awards are presented annually by the International Academy of the Digital Arts and Sciences and are among the most important digital competitions in the world. Unlike the other prizes, the People's Voice Award is not awarded by the award jury, but by the public. (hae)
