Last but not least: Will you be my friend?
Facebook habits suddenly spill over from the computer into real life, and viral behavior patterns are transposed onto reality: In this way, a film exposes the absurdity of social media.
"Will you be my friend?" the actor asks a couple of strangers. "Maybe it would help if you looked at my photos?" he continues. Even if this all seems more than bizarre, it is exactly the way people communicate online. The sometimes absurd patterns of behavior on social networks are hardly noticeable anymore. On Twitter, visitors follow everyone they like. Facebook is teeming with soul strips and boring messages about things you wouldn't even put up with your annoying neighbor making small talk.
These traps of online life are the subject of the opera "Two Boys", which premieres at the English National Opera ENO on June 24. The film, albeit a little long, is intended to announce and promote the opera. The film whets the appetite for the opera, but almost more so for real life, preferably offline and far away from friend requests, pokes, followers, likes and comments.
