Last but not least: How not to farm

WWF produced a clip as part of an international campaign against bycatch in fisheries. It had to be withdrawn because it was too bold or too authentic.

The animated film shows various real-life methods of catching wild fish - not in the water, but on land. The aim is to make people aware of how absurd it would be to plow up an entire field with animals during the harvest.

The clip is humorous and has a clear message:

The clip not only sensitizes, but also promotes the Marine Stewardship Council label and MSC-certified fish. This creates different needs and requirements for the clip.

The clip has now disappeared from YouTube and Vimeo. MSC called on WWF to remove it from the web: it shows a false and negative image of fishing. And it fails to recognize the commitment of many fisheries that strive for sustainable fishing. It is not entirely clear why they should feel attacked. (sis)
