The Eurovision Song Contest is taking place this weekend, an event that mysteriously attracts hundreds of thousands of people to the screens every year. For this symbol of international understanding, Google has launched a popularity and forecast barometer, which uses a ranking list to show the popularity of the songs and nations. Norway is currently at the top of the list, followed by Turkey and Greece. The list is based on search queries on Google, which are then calculated in the same way as the real competition.
Particularly exciting for Eurovision fans is the accompanying colorful graph showing the progression of the top five countries' scores. Switzerland is, not so surprisingly, absent here, but of course we don't want to give up hope that this will change in the course of the week. Last but not least, the song by our Basel lovebirds, The Highest Heights, would actually fit in quite well with some of the swings on the election barometer. You shouldn't be put off by people who first think of armed exterminators when they hear Lovebugs. The guys deserve it, honestly.
