Last but not least: sexism yes, sex education no thanks

The church-affiliated publisher Weltbild seems to have a somewhat unconventional view of ethics: It has removed the sex education book *Make Love* from its catalog, yet continues to sell the BDSM trilogy *Shades of Grey*.

Make Love" is a factual sex education book, whereas "Shades of Grey" is a highly controversial bestseller that has been described in many places as low-brow and sexist. The publisher even explicitly points out the following in its online store: "The subjugation of women described here contradicts the view of the world and humanity that guides us as booksellers. We regard the book as very problematic." However, the merciless subjugation of women does not stop Weltbild from offering the work. A passage about abortion, on the other hand, prompted the publisher to remove "Make Love" from its range. One is inclined to say: Weltbild's worldview is backwards.

Weltbild is owned by twelve German dioceses, the Association of German Dioceses and the Catholic Chaplaincy for Soldiers in Berlin. Two weeks ago, the owners decided to transfer their shares to a church foundation under public law. This averted a decision to sell the company, which had been made a good six months ago in the wake of public debates about erotic and esoteric media in the Weltbild range.
