Last but not least: Schmidt has had enough

Harald Schmidt is apparently already planning the end of his television career - around two weeks before the start of his late-night show with co-presenter Oliver Pocher, which kicks off on October 25. He wants to do "Schmidt & Pocher" together with the 29-year-old for "one or two years", "then he can go on air alone, every day, just like I used to, while I myself only do the vacation stand-in", Schmidt told the Stuttgarter Zeitung newspaper on Monday. "That would be my ideal." After that, he wants to devote more time to the theater. But before old master Schmidt leaves the TV stage, he is still breeding his offspring: he has been watching Pocher for a long time, said the 50-year-old: "Highly talented and the only one who could start a late-night career." He does not see himself as a mentor to the youngster, but thanks to the joint show on ARD, the 29-year-old will be playing "in a completely different league" in future. Schmidt will present a one-hour show with Pocher once a week. He will be able to look forward to the start calmly - if the plans for the exit have already been worked out, the beginning will certainly be easier.
