Last but not least: Skin of Practice
To provide tattoo artists with better opportunities to practice, Lew’Lara\TBWA has developed the «Skin Book.» Human guinea pigs will thank the agency for it.
As we all know, masters aren’t born—they’re made. The same goes for tattoo artists. However, unlike in other professions, the «learning by doing» approach isn’t really recommended in this field. At least not from the perspective of the «guinea pigs,» who then have to live with the results of that training for the rest of their lives. But logically, a budding tattoo artist’s best friend can’t expect a masterpiece if the artist has only been poking around on oranges or chicken before.

For Tattoo Magazine, the Brazilian agency Lew’Lara\TBWA has now come up with a solution, offering plenty of practice opportunities with the «Skin Book»: Each page of the book is made of synthetic skin and depicts a part of the human body. The artificial skin is designed to feel like real skin and to be worked on in a similar way. Even so, it won’t allow for an infinite number of practice runs, as the «Skin Book» is being published in a limited edition. At the very least, however, it should help prevent the most glaring mistakes—the first human test run will come soon enough. (hae)
