Last but not least: The god in white

The summer break is usually a slow news period for the media. This year, however, they’re benefiting from the outstanding athletic achievements of Swiss athletes. Sports editors rarely hold back on superlatives, but now they’ve gone so far as to create a new god.

The summer vacations are usually sour-pickle time for the media. This year, however, they are benefiting from the sporting achievements of Swiss athletes - or at least athletes who are active under the Swiss flag. After Alinghi elicited cries of joy from the media (see ), it is now tennis ace Roger Federer's turn. Pardon, tennis god! That's what he's called from today, according to Blick: "Roger, God of Tennis". We are already used to seeing the man from Basel win one trophy after another. But the fact that Federer has now also equaled Björn Borg's Wimbledon record has once again filled numerous columns in the press, although the St. Galler Tagblatt newspaper also wrote succinctly: "Federer like Borg". And television also likes the almighty Roger: the final match helped SF 2 to attract around half a million viewers and a market share of 41.1 percent. Now we can only hope that the wave of success will also carry our winter sportsmen and women along with it. Then the broadcasters and program directors will also have something to look forward to in the cold season.
