Last but not least: Bonjour Tristesse
After the Germany-France quarterfinal, RTL2 celebrated the team's advancement to the semifinals with a lighthearted news show full of bloopers—and didn't leave a single gaffe out.
Presenter Miriam Pulcher set off the gag fireworks right at the start of the show and announced Germany's supposed elimination in a hoarse voice. "Bonjour tristesse! France knocks Germany out of the World Cup in the quarter-finals. The fans are in mourning." And immediately followed by the second, this time correct alternative text "Jogi's boys are through." A brief moment of silence, audible rattling in her head. She had been cheering along and was therefore hoarse. The loneliness of the newswoman at the penalty kick. Rescue is at hand: a switch to the outside reporter Sandra, who turns out to be a man a few seconds later. Back to Sandra, who proudly holds up her correct tip ("France-Switzerland 1:0") to the camera.
Amusing, not particularly confident, but not too tragic either. Live television has to be learned first and RTL2 is known to have other strengths. And the next chance to practise will come sooner than the team would probably like: on Tuesday, Germany will play Brazil for a place in the final. And here, too, it is advisable to prepare two different news texts due to the uncertain outcome of the match. (hae)
