Last but not least: Blinkwashing

Something new for a change: Virgin Mobile USA uses eye-tracking to make sure you can't take your eyes off the YouTube ad. If you have a webcam, you're in for a surprise. Try it out for yourself!

Virgin calls this new dimension of attention-grabbing "blinkwashing", created by the agency Mother New York. The Virgin Mobile commercial presents the mobile phone provider's new data and phone tariffs. The man at the table explains that it is not the viewer's fault that he has not yet switched to Virgin - the brain is the culprit. Cut. A snowboarder with an action cam talks about the advantages of the provider in the middle of the descent. Cut. A Korean playback screen - the English subtitles explain... you guessed it. What you haven't guessed yet: It switches when you blink!

After the calibration at the start - you are asked to blink twice - this works surprisingly well. Rarely has the recipient waited so eagerly to receive the next advertising message - real brain... pardon blinkwashing. (hae)
