"Whassup" goes digital
Just in time for the 54th Super Bowl, Budweiser Canada and Uber are launching an adaptation of the iconic "Whassup" campaign - featuring bawling smart speakers, robot vacuums and washing machines.
It was almost exactly 20 years ago when Budweiser launched its iconic campaign featuring a group of friends yelling "Whassup" to each other over the phone. In the intervening years, the ad has been parodied by the movie Scary Movie, the series The Office and an annoying orange, among others. Now the brand has adapted the concept to digital transformation.
The spot shows what happens when two smart speakers talk about how much they would like to watch the Super Bowl. Other smart gadgets don't miss the chance to join the conversation before the owner bursts into the scene.
However, the campaign is aimed at something different. In a world full of smart technologies, there are still many people who make the wrong decision and drive under the influence of alcohol and drugs. In light of the 54th Super Bowl, Budweiser and Uber want to raise awareness among Canadians to choose a "smarter" way home.
