Jan Böhmermann has boarded a Pro Sieben advertising block to give his old friend Klaas Heufer-Umlauf a run for his money. Mission accomplished.

"Late Night Berlin" is the name of Klaas Heufer-Umlauf's new late-night show on Pro Sieben. After last year's end of "Circus HalliGalli", his show with Joko Winterscheidt, Heufer-Umlauf is back with a weekly format on his "home channel". As is typical for TV premieres, the premiere was somewhat subdued. And, apart from a few gags that briefly scratched the edge of tastelessness, it was quite unspectacular. Given Heufer-Umlauf's undisputed skills, it is safe to assume that the show still has plenty of room (and above all potential) for improvement. At least the ratings are said to have been right.
Jan Böhmermann, on the other hand, provided a highlight. On Sunday, the ZDF neo-satirist said on Spotify that he would like to be invited by his former stage, show and podcast colleague Heufer-Umlauf to appear on his new show as soon as possible - but only to cancel immediately. The appearance took place without an invitation. Quite apart from the late-night action, during the commercial break.
In a critique of capitalism sponsored by the advertising-minded car rental company Sixt, Böhmermann declared that he could never imagine having a talk show on private television. If only because they are constantly interrupted by commercial breaks and there is no control over who is advertising what. The "You see better with the second one" gesture underlined the friendly greetings from fee-financed television. At the end of 2017, ZDF expanded and extended the contract with Böhmermann for his satire and late-night show "Neo Magazin Royale".
Böhmermann was not sponsored by Sixt - the company "merely" paid for the 30-second playground for the satirist (and received a rather high-profile, celebrated appearance in return). In addition to Böhmermann, his production company Bildundtonfabrik (BTF) and the Hamburg Sixt agency Oliver Voss are responsible for the idea. Even if the unexpected and surprisingly staged Böhmermann genius pranks - at least it feels like it - have become rather rare: He can still do it. And how. (hae)
