Yes = death, no = life

The death penalty as a «simple solution» for terrorists and other criminals? What many Belgians considered at least a possibility turns out, in this Air Brussels video for Amnesty International, not to be so simple after all—at least when it comes to specific individuals.

In a survey, seven out of ten Belgians said that they would consider reintroducing the death penalty as a possible option in the fight against terrorism. The survey took place after the attacks in Paris and Brussels. For Amnesty International, this result was a no-go. For the NGO, the death penalty is never an option, regardless of who is on trial. It is cruel, inhumane, degrading and a clear violation of human rights, according to AI.

This is why Amnesty launched the "Death Penalty Test" on World Day against the Death Penalty: a website on which people can sentence various offenders to death by simply clicking on "Yes", for the death penalty, or "No". The clip, which was created for AI by the Air Brussels agency, shows that the death penalty is no longer so simple when it comes to actual people - even if they are offenders. The campaign sparked a fierce debate on social media, particularly in Belgium - and is likely to have given some people food for thought. (nod.)
