Shark food
On July 23, the annual «Shark Week» returns to the Discovery Channel. Unfortunately, singer Seal will not be around to see it.

Today we know that humans are not on the shark's menu. Accordingly, they are normally disinterested in the species that hunts them mercilessly in large parts of the world, bringing them to the brink of extinction. The approximately 100 attacks on humans every year have other causes than hunger or aggression. Scientists suspect that one of the reasons is due to mistaken identity: Sharks mistake surfers for seals. Even though the fish's extremely keen senses should actually be able to tell the difference. One theory is that, when in doubt, the sharks try a bite out of curiosity before letting go of their prey after the bite. When their favorite food beckons, sharks prefer to play it safe.
Singer Seal also has to experience this in the commercial for the Discovery Channel's "Shark Week". The former campaign claim "It's a bad week to be a seal" has been given a new lease of life. Shark Week" is an annual program event in which the channel only shows shark content for an entire week. The week was launched in 1988 to dispel the prejudices against these fascinating sea creatures that were still widespread at the time. In the meantime, "Shark Week" has become a viewer magnet - and the longest continuously broadcast program content on cable television in the USA. (hae)
